What is a tourist visa, and do you need one?

A tourist visa permits a short visit for leisure, sightseeing or seeing family. It does not permit work, and it does not permit study beyond a short course.

Tourist visa vs business visit visa

Same trip length, different category. Tourism covers holidays, family visits, weddings and graduations. A business visit covers meetings, conferences, trade fairs and supplier visits — and needs an invitation letter from the overseas company.

Australia and China run these as separate streams inside one visa (Subclass 600 Tourist vs Business Visitor; China L vs M). The US splits them as B2 and B1. You cannot quietly switch after lodgement, so we settle the category before anything is filed. Attending a conference is not tourism, even if you add a week of sightseeing afterwards.

Government fees are never refunded if a visa is refused. Our service fee is quoted separately in writing before you commit, and we add no margin to government charges. Ask any agent for that same split. Fees above are the figures at the time of writing — we confirm the current charge with you before you pay.

2. Documents. A checklist built for your situation — not a generic list — then we check everything you send.

3. Lodgement. We complete and file the application, book biometrics or interviews where required, and track it.

4. Before you fly. We go through your visa’s validity, permitted stay and conditions.

Tourist visa processing time

Chennai travels in waves — the April–May school holidays and the December break. In those windows the constraint is appointment availability, not processing speed.

Europe and the US: start three to four months ahead. Australia, UK, New Zealand: eight to ten weeks. China, Dubai, Southeast Asia: three to four weeks.

Three things that actually cause refusals

• Money that appeared recently. Officers read the pattern, not the closing balance. Six steady months beats a large deposit made last week, and a big incoming sum needs a paper trail. There is no official minimum balance for any of these visas — figures quoted online as a “safe baseline” are invented.

• Documents that contradict each other. Leave dates that do not match the flights. Hotels that do not match the itinerary. Names spelled differently across passport, PAN and bank records.

• An undeclared earlier refusal, from any country. Non-disclosure is treated far more seriously than the refusal itself.

No official minimum anywhere. Funds should credibly cover your trip, with a steady history.

Canada yes, in Chennai. Australia no. Schengen yes, unless taken within the last five years.

Will I get a sticker in my passport?

China and Schengen yes. Australia and New Zealand are electronic.
