Indian passport holders need a visa for the UK. The Electronic Travel Authorisation you may have read about is for visa-free nationalities — it does not apply to us, whatever the trip is for.
Most Chennai applicants we see are visiting family in London, Birmingham, Leicester or Manchester, going for a graduation, or travelling for meetings and conferences. The visa itself is a Standard Visitor visa — it covers both tourist and business visitor trips under one category. What varies is how long you should ask for.
We have prepared UK visitor files from Chennai for ten years, including long-term 2, 5 and 10-year visas for clients who travel every year. We know what UKVI reads first in a bank statement, and when paying more for a longer visa is worth it — and when it plainly is not.
We are a private visa consultancy in Chennai. We are not UK Visas and Immigration and we do not decide visas.
No. There is no counter in Chennai where a UK visa is applied for or decided. You apply online at GOV.UK, pay online, and then attend a visa application centre only to give your biometrics.
This trips people up because the Deputy High Commission does exist in Chennai — it just has nothing to do with taking your visitor visa application. We confirm the correct visa application centre for you and book the appointment.
Everyone lists the long-term fees. Almost nobody tells you when they are worth paying, so here is the arithmetic.
| Option | Compare against | Worth it when |
|---|---|---|
| 6 months | — | A one-off trip: a wedding, a graduation, a single holiday |
| 2 years | 2 × the 6-month fee | You will travel at least twice and want the paperwork done once |
| 5 years | 5 × the 6-month fee | You go most years and value skipping a fresh assessment each time |
| 10 years | 10 × the 6-month fee | You travel regularly — the only option that also saves money outright |
Run those comparisons on the current GOV.UK fees and the picture is consistent: on fees alone, only the ten-year option is cheaper than applying each time. What the two and five-year visas actually buy is not having to reassemble your documents, book biometrics and face a fresh assessment every time you travel. If you fly to see family twice a year, that is worth real money and real anxiety. If you are going once for a wedding, it is not.
We run the current numbers with you at the assessment, from the GOV.UK fee tool, so the comparison is the one that applies on the day you apply.
One caveat worth knowing. A long-term visa still limits each visit to six months, and UKVI expects your main home to remain in India. It is not a route to living in the UK in stretches.
We tell you which one fits. Sometimes that means talking you out of the expensive option.
Unlike some countries, the UK does sell faster decisions. A priority service returns a decision in a few working days and a super priority service aims for the next working day — both at a substantial extra cost, and both subject to availability at your centre.
Prices and availability change, and agent websites publish figures that contradict each other. We check the GOV.UK fee tool with you rather than quoting a number that may be out of date.
Two honest points. Paying for speed does not improve your chances, only shortens the wait. And a file that raises questions can still take longer than the promised window.
If your travel is more than six weeks away, the standard service is usually the sensible choice.
There is no official minimum bank balance for a UK visitor visa. What matters is that your money credibly covers the trip and has been there a while.

UK files sit with Maharoof, Visa Manager — over five years handling documentation and filing across our destination portfolio.
We settle the direction first. Six months or long-term, tourist or business, who sponsors the trip. Getting this right at the start decides everything that follows.
We fill the online form with you. The UKVI form is long and unforgiving, and most avoidable problems are contradictions between what the form says and what the documents show.
We write the cover letter around your actual situation. UKVI decisions turn on credibility, and a generic letter adds nothing to a file.
We review the financials the way a caseworker will. Not the closing balance — the pattern, the trip cost, and whether the two agree. A sum that appeared last week needs a documented explanation.
We book the right appointment at the correct visa application centre, and tell you what to carry.
We handle the eVisa step. Setting up and checking your UKVI account is now part of the process, and it catches people out.
We tell you where you stand first. The assessment is free, and if your case is weak we say so before you spend anything. We do not promise outcomes — UKVI decides, and any agent quoting an approval percentage is quoting a number they cannot support.
Travelling on to Europe on the same trip? A UK visa does not cover the Schengen area — see our Schengen visa page, and we can run both applications together.
