Switzerland sits inside the Schengen area, so Indian passport holders travel there on a Schengen short-stay visa. That much is simple. What trips people up is money — Switzerland expects visitors to show more per day than most Schengen countries — and choosing which country to apply to in the first place.
Most Chennai travellers we see are going for the Alps: Interlaken, Jungfrau, Zermatt, usually as part of a longer Europe trip, often a honeymoon. A smaller group travels for pharma, engineering or finance meetings in Zurich, Basel and Geneva.
We have prepared Swiss files from Chennai for ten years — hundreds of applications, most of them multi-country itineraries where working out the correct consulate was half the job.
We are a private visa consultancy. We are not the Swiss Embassy and we do not decide visas.
Swiss guidance expects a visitor to show funds of around CHF 100 for each day of the stay. Holders of a valid Swiss student permit are held to a lower figure, around CHF 30 a day. We confirm the exact current figures with the Embassy at your assessment — published amounts do shift.
Work it through. A couple travelling for ten days is being assessed against roughly CHF 2,000 between them — before flights. A family of four on the same trip is looking at double that.
You will find travel websites quoting €60 or €70 a day. That is not the Swiss figure, and budgeting to it is how an otherwise sound application ends up looking underfunded.
Two things matter as much as the number. Prepaid accommodation reduces what you need to demonstrate, so hotel vouchers are worth submitting. And a balance that appeared last week is not the same as a balance that has been there six months — Swiss caseworkers read the pattern, not just the closing figure.
We calculate your exact requirement at the assessment, before you book anything.
Often it is not, and applying to the wrong one gets a file rejected before it is assessed.
The rule: you apply to the country where you will spend the most nights. If two are equal, the country you enter first.
A typical Chennai itinerary: three nights in Paris, four in Rome, three in Interlaken, two in Zurich. Switzerland totals five nights against Italy’s four and France’s three — so Switzerland is correct here. Change it to five nights in Paris and three in Interlaken and you apply to France, however much the trip is “about” the Alps in your head.
Be careful of appointment-slot advice. You may be told to apply through a different Schengen country because slots are easier there. If Switzerland is genuinely your main destination, that is an application to the wrong consulate — and it is your fee and your trip at risk, not the agent’s.
We map the nights against the bookings and tell you where the application belongs.
Prepaid hotel vouchers do double duty here — accommodation proof, and evidence that reduces the daily funds you must show.

Switzerland applications sit with Meenakshi and Anoop on our Europe desk, who handle the main-destination call on every file.
We settle the direction first. Which country the application belongs to, based on nights against bookings — the exact decision that catches out most Europe itineraries. Get this wrong and nothing else matters.
We calculate your funds requirement. Adjusted for prepaid accommodation, multiplied by travellers and days. You get a number before you book, not a vague instruction to “show sufficient funds”.
We fill the form with you. The consulate compares every answer against your documents, and contradictions are what create doubt.
We review the financials as a caseworker would. The pattern, the trip cost, and whether the two agree. A sum that arrived recently needs a documented explanation — a maturity certificate, a sale deed, a gift with a trail.
We book the right appointment at the Chennai centre and tell you what to carry, or confirm whether you can skip attending.
We prepare you for the border. Your visa’s validity, the 90-in-180 count, and the biometric checks that have replaced passport stamps at European entry points.
We tell you where you stand first. The assessment is free, and if the case is weak we say so before you spend anything. We do not promise outcomes — the Embassy decides, and any agent quoting an approval percentage is quoting a number they cannot support.
Travelling through several Schengen countries on the same trip? See our Schengen visa page for the wider 90-in-180 rules, including longer multi-entry visas for frequent travellers.
